Getting a routine through an Amman winter

The cold here is dry, not damp. Small changes that keep the barrier from cracking.

A frost-covered juniper branch in winter

Amman winters are cold and very dry. Indoor humidity often drops below 30% once the heaters are on, and skin loses water faster than it can replace it.

Switch to a gentler cleanser

Foaming cleansers strip oil you need in winter. Use a cream or oil cleanser in the evening and just water in the morning.

Add a serum layer

Calendula Barrier Serum contains glycerin and panthenol, which pull water into the skin. Apply it on damp skin before your oil.

Go up one drop of oil

If you use three drops in summer, use four in January. Around the nose and mouth, press a little extra.

Watch the heater

Sitting close to a soba or gas heater dries the skin on one side of the face. A bowl of water on the heater, or a small humidifier in the bedroom, makes a noticeable difference.
